THE OLD SMA RE-VISITED

To those SMA alumni who graduated in 2008 and earlier and had never got the chance to visit the school lately, "OUR SCHOOL" is now OLD SCHOOL.

Probably only a few number of 'OLD SMA' students paid notice to this side of the school. Everybody is aware though, that this served as the "facade" of the building they used to consider the St. Mary's Academy until it transfered to a nearby site.

I used to fall in line here (atubangan jud kay putot man) during Morning Prayers and flag retreat when I was First Year high school. This is located at the back of the Church sacristy. Probably that used to be a canteen.

This is the remains of the convent that was burned down by fire in March 26 last year (2008). This is the very location of First Year-DAHLIA, my section.

First Year - DAHLIA, and farther was First Year - SAMPAGUITA

This used to be Second Year - ROSE on the second floor, my Section. Next room (ground floor) was CDA (Cadena de Amor). Today, it serves as residence of the Parish Priest and the Parish office.

On the ground floor were the three (3) Sections of the Third Year. Leftmost used to be my Section JASMINE. The second floor used to be the three (3) Sections of the Fourth Year.

That leftmost on the second floor was room IV- YLANG-YLANG, my Section.

The same room viewed from Eternidad Street.

Farther view.

The second floor used to be the RVM Sisters' quarters. The room upon entrance was the receiving room where ROLDAN RONDERO and I used to work on stuffs for decorations - supervised by the very active, ever-smiling and BEAUTIFUL SR. LILIA MALIMIT, RVM.

The only wall that differs in color used to be the school's main entrance. It is now closed.

A closer look of the receiving room and...the wall where the school gate was.

This used to be the area where the 2nd year, 3rd year and 4th year lined up for the Flag ceremony and retreat. See the wall that closes the entrance gate?

A closer look seems to tell that it is closed just recently, judging by the color of the hollow blocks.

The space surrounded by bamboo sticks in the center used to be the fish pond, where frogs too, abound! JESSE GLENN TUMUSOK and I played the bugle almost regularly every flag retreat in the afternoon. The brown door is the only living testament to the former school library.

The old SMA main building that housed three rooms for the 3rd year and three rooms for the 4th year students on the second floor. In front is the school ground for the Morning prayers and short programs that were held.

The stairs leading to the 4th year rooms on the second floor.

The UNFORGETTABLE OLD ST. MARY'S ACADEMY!

THE NEW SAINT MARY'S ACADEMY (SMA) BUILDING

If my memory serves me right, The new SMA building, which is situated not far from the old one, started its operation in June of last year.

So, for those who graduated from the old SMA and have not been around for sometime, here's your treat!

Take a glance of YOUR new school too!

The bust of Madre Ignacia del Espiritu Santo (MIDES) and an RVM Regional logo.

The famous SMA logo showing the year of its foundation in Oslob.

The podium (with logo) and a MIDES framed poster attached to the pasillo wall.

a zoomed out view of the front of SMA.

The SMA facade.

The Blessed Virgin Mary attached to one of its pillars viewed thru the school gate.

The SMA facade thru its gate.

The entrance gate.

The school viewed from "our" CAT field. The field must have been known by another name now, as there is probably no more CAT (Citizens Army Training) in SMA, as in many high schools in the country today.

From another angle.

The stage too, must have undergone face-lifting as it was dominantly wood during our time.

The basketball court that has been a witness to students cutting classes just to sweat it out here!

The field that hosts the yearly Cheering competitions, Intra-murals and CAT Tactical inspections. Daghan pod nalipong dinhi labina ug init inig CAT formation.

This stage is a memoir for those honor students and performers.

FROM BOYS TO MEN

There are more than 3 ways in knowing a MAN from a BOY!

A BOY:
1) A boy likes softdrinks so much!
2) A boy hates baby-sitting!
3) A boy doesn't like and love it when his mother shows him affection in front of his friends!

and so goes the list....

A MAN:
1) A MAN grows a dislike to softdrinks,
2) A MAN is only a man when he has harnessed his mastery in baby-sitting!
3) A MAN likes and loves his mother-in-law and gets the same courtesy in return, with or without society's knowledge!

...there's NO NEED for more...!

THESE... are THE MEN!

JUST A MIRROR POSE, nothing more.
FELIX, ROSYVETTE with daughter and MARICRES

Of course we were at the opposite side of the table from ALMA, ROSYVETTE and JOEL.

We're giving you out this information, for fear that anyone who looks at this picture might tend to believe that ALMA and DAYVETTE have successfully wrestled everything what those left on the table suggest...see those empty bottles of Coke and Sprite and plates?..see how these two (2) have grown HORIZONTALLY? AL, makatindog pa ka? --- YES, that's ABSOLUTELY our point here!

LISETTE conversing with PAMELA NAZARENO (or was it RENATO CAYON?), FLORA experiencing a nocturnal episode of being trascended into her OWN WORLD and ELSIE who unofficially won the BEST POSE of the night! ELS, morag wala man kapoya sa Parade, unya morag dili pod obvious nga naka.inom ug Boracay da!

SAME PEOPLE with SAME WIDE SMILES!

TAKE 3 and...

TAKE 4!

Batch '87 would like to express their heart-felt gratitude to the GENEROSITY and GRACIOUSNESS of MRS. ELISA PROS (Joel's mother) and NANG MESIA for the dinner. The same degree of appreciation definitely goes to Joel. DAGHAN KAAYONG SALAMAT!
